Need a couch that can withstand abuse

I do not recommend getting a Henredon. Not worth the $$.

We got a leather couch at Contemporary Concepts in Rockville several years ago that has stood up well to two small boys and a dog. Can't speak to the cats though.

We have that also. You can buy new covers for it, of various fabrics/leathers.. So just get that and spend the $100-ish every year or two to replace the upholstery.

Not to derail, but I love this couch. Do the back cushions come off (are they detachable)? Like, can we remove the back cushions and use the bottom part for a small twin bed for company with kids?

Yes, they are removable. (Just checked).

I had this couch in my first apt when I was 24 (and I'm not a super lux person now). It looks and feels super cheap.

I recommend La-z-boy too. Just make sure you get an upgraded fabric if you are tough on the couch.

Looked at Crate and Barrel, Bassett, Haverty's Hamiltons, and La-z-boy. Ended up buying the la-z-boy. My previous sofa was a high end piece of shit from Gus Modern that is practically destroyed five years later. And we are NOT rough on it -- my kid's not even two and only just entering the climbing stage and we have NO pets.

Does the Lazy Boy have removable pillows? In other words, I don't want the ones that are sewn on.

PP that you quoted here - I asked this question and it depends on the sofa. They have some that are removable and others that aren't -- but they said that the ones that are sewn have removable inserts regardless, so you can still flip them.

We've gone through a lot of sofas and chairs in the last 15 years (several moves, rough cats, several rooms). The absolute best money we ever spent was on a sectional from Arhaus. 10 years later and that thing is a machine - so comfortable and i wash the cushion covers so they look like new. The construction of that sofa is a million miles above the competitors we've had (ikea, room & board, Rowe, Mitchell Gold). We did a patterned microsuede and it looks amazing.

Here's the catch - we need a new sofa (updating colors) but Arhaus styles are not so clean and modern. We are struggling whether to get a less awesome sofa that looks pretty, or get the same one we already have even if the style is a little less nice. But you should check their webpage incase you like any of the styles.

Just figure out the manufacturer and find another dealer who sells the same brand.

Our 11 year old La-Z-Boy in microsuede (ultrasuede - I don't know) is holding up better than our 2 year old sofa from Belfort. Our newer sofa has a flannel like fabric and claws do cause issues. We had a leather love seat once and our cats made it look awful.

I have a Kivik. I love it: it's held up to grandchildren, dogs---2 Aussies and a border collie---drunken Marines, imitation MMA fights, you name it. It's wide enough to sleep on without taking the back cushions off, and comfortable. I got the chaise thingy and stuck it at one end, so it sleeps 2 toddlers and the attendant nanny dogs.

The only thing is that the main cover, not the cushions--is a bitch to wash and requires disassembling the arms
