Synagogue based school in Rockville. Non Reggio approach. |
| We didn't get our letter in the mail today, guess we will get it tomorrow. |
Not OP, but there's an inclusive Jewish school in Moco. I think they have a preschool, but for the life of me, I cannot remember the name. It's not the JCC--although they may have an inclusive preschool (they are good about camps). It has a Hebrew name, so if someone knows the name, post it for OP. (Or just to satisfy my curiosity.) |
Are you thinking about Sulam? |
That's the one! Apparently, it starts in K. |
Yes and it's fantastic. MJBHA does start in preschool but the preschoolers are not part of Sulam. That being said, it is a warm nurturing school that is not afraid to draw on its resources when necessary. It's always nice to be able to ask a colleague to step into a classroom and do an observation. They have children in the preschool that go to PEP and then transition into K with support as necessary. All this is great as long as you are Jewish. It's the most orthodox of the mainstream day schools. |

I know it was mentioned earlier in the thread, but I would take a look at the Lourie Center. They have kids that get bussed to afternoon pep from that program. It s also relatively affordable.
They also really helped us with our transition into kindergarten, suggesting goals, allowing observations, and attending meetings at no extra charge. In addition, they have parent training so where you get to meet the other parents who have great suggestions (and also understand your struggles). Best part- they promise to NEVER send your child home- a true life and job saver! |
My son ended up not going to the Lourie Center. But Dr. Venza is awesome. At our intake interview, I described one of my sons lacking social skills---when someone would say hello to my son, he would respond by screaming in their face. Dr. Venza deadpanned....always a winning way to say hello. He made me laugh and most of all he made me feel that I was no longer alone in this battle. That the cavalry was coming. For better or worse, when I did the intake, Dr. Venza advised me that there would not be space until the following school year--at the time it was 8 months away. By the time 8 months had passed, time had helped my son mature, PEP had helped, and his social skills group had helped. The PEP Parent Education, Dr. Venza, and myself all agreed that the Lourie Center was no longer the right place for my son. Even though I never interacted with him and his staff for a long duration, I will never forget his kindness and sense of humor when I was in the depths of despair. |
| OP here - thank you so much! Had no idea about Sulam but will check it out. I have left a message for the Lourie center, waiting to hear back. Hope it's not too late. |
| So sorry OP. Will think about this. |
| We haven't gotten a response from Maddux either way. Should I just assume it is a no at this point? |
I would give it til Monday then call. The admin person is out long-term on a serious family emergency. |
| We haven't gotten a response. Sounds like the only letters that have gone out have been for kindergarten. Still waiting for pre-k. Has anyone received a deny or acceptance for pre-k? |
| We got a letter today for PreK- weight listed. |

I highly recommend Potomac Glen Day School! Simply having good social role models for your child might be better than any "specialized" program elsewhere. The teachers there love what they do and are dedicated, enthusiastic and patient. www.potomacglendayschool.com |
