Filling the gap is part real and part fiction. Part of the "gap" is the difference between full tuition and what families who receive FA pay. Depends on your perspective if that is a real cost of your child's education (because he/she benefits form that economic diversity) or not.
My rule of thumb -- I used to give about 10% above regular tuition for each child at the school. Of course, the more kids you have the tougher that gets. |

$250. Wish we could contribute more.
We haven't had vacation for many years, can't afford the nice afternoon enrichment classes, eat out only once a month, drive a 10 yr old car because we want prioritize DC education at private. |

Well that is part of the gap. And we know part of our contributions go toward another kid's financial aid. Isn't that part of the point? |

| This will be our first year but we have budgeted $5K-$10K for this |
I don't think you should feel badly at all. It sounds very generous given your circumstances. This will be our first year. We will probably do about the same. We receive a small amount of FA and the tuition is still a huge stretch. However, I want to give what we can because we are so incredibly appreciate of the generosity of others that make our child's attendance at the school even possible. We also hope to contribute to the school through a high rate of volunteerism. |
Sorry for all the typos. I was trying to say that we are very appreciative of the other families' generosity. Without it, we simply wouldn't be able to attend. |

FA recipient here. Hearts and ribbons to all of you who give so much! This mom cried with joy when she saw that her DC could attend such a wonderful school.
And, too, to those who give indirectly.

| 2,500K each kid; we have two. |
Why would you deprive your DC of enrichment classes for the sake of the annual fund, which will in part pay for FA recipients to attend some enrichment programs? Sacrificing vacation and luxuries, sure. If you can afford the money for the Fund, absolutely, give as much as you can but it sounds like you are taking the money from your DC's chance to attend enrichment classes, to pay into the annual fund. |
| This will be our first year. We are budgeting to contribute $1k and supplement with lots of volunteering. We are super excited to have received enough FA to make private possible and we want to do as much as we can to show our appreciation. |
