I've not heard it was failing from anywhere. Quite the contrary in fact. |
| Get a grip. The tech heavy program is not appropriate. Simple. Stop trying to make it difficult. It's not rocket science. Tech foci for middle schools is damaging. DCI can try to dance around that all they want. The bottom line is it's bad. If they would change that we all wouldn't be hear espousing our views. They're not budging and so they are going to lose a lot of parents. |
| sigh. give it up to the overwrought..... |
| If you don't like it, don't send your kid. There are plenty of us who think it is both appropriate and desired. I can't wait to send my child. |
| I am curious about DCI scores on PARC. We will have to wait and see I guess |
just don't send your kid there. we don't all have to agree with you. |
| does parch test every single grade or just some? |
care to put money on that? care to wager if they're oversubscribed this year and don't take a lot of kids? come back in May and we'll see...... |
Not the PP, but it is entirely unproductive to equate "too much tech" opinions with being "anti-DCI". We were THRILLED with the idea of DCI and still are, but we are concerned about the tech focus too. That is simply not the same as being "anti-DCI" and the more people keep equating them, the further away from solutions this conversation gets. |
There are obviously multiple perspectives. Some, like yourself, have reasonable questions and concerns. But others have taken it so far that they express misplaced vitriol. |
+1. DCI is what? 2 yrs old. It's not failing. It's barely started. Don't we all want more good middle school options? Don't understand the venom, it's like they want DCI to fail. We are at a feeder and have no problem with the tech focus... Consider it a plus for our tech savvy kid with bad handwriting: we requested keyboarding for him and our feeder provides him with a chrome book. |
Actually 8 months old - started fall 2014. No dog in this fight - but i think the "venom" is real but not unique to DCI. Seems many new charters almost get hazed the first 2-3 years (see YY, Basis, DCI - even Latin way back when they were new) -- and their founding parents jump to their defense at even the slightest criticism which fuels the haters more. |
+1. NP. Kids are going to need these skills in the real world. Sorry, just the way it will be. You can't tell your boss you won't read email because it is just too much screen time. |
| Some parents have been very honest that they want to "save" their kids' screen time for games and movies. |
| Hopeful for DCI, but disappointed in the tech focus and the angry boosters. Their denial doesn't help matters. Anyways, the verdict isn't out, but we'll pass unless there's a major overhaul. I'm sure some will say "don't let the door hit you", but I'll be joining a lot of folks already at the door. Sad really. |
