OP here. Wow, thanks for all that info!
To the person who asked: No, I will not have a prep sink. This is a small kitchen, about 9x10 ft. We often have more than one cook in the kitchen, so I'm leaning away from the corner configuration, based on the feedback here. And I am also seeing how if we do end up doing a corner sink, the diagonal edge should be wider, to give more side-to-side room (and that this plan will "waste" a fair amount of counter space on the far side of the sink) But without the corner sink, with the way things are laid out, i will have 2 full "blind" corners in the base cabinets, where the storage space is not very useable. With the sink in the corner, I would get to put in one of those carousels in the other corner, which seems like a much better option that the tetris game of trying to use shelf space that has no door directly in front of it. As for the single vs double sink controversy... For washing pots and pans, I'm very attached to being able to fill one sink with hot soapy water for washing, and then having the other side for rinsing. This seems like the easiest and most efficient way to do it. But now that I'm trying to figure out a new arrangement, and space is tight, I kind of wish I was a single bowl gal.

I had one in my previous kitchen which was in a custom built home. It was not a true corner but more of a catty corner made for the sink, like this:
http://www.coloradowino.com/kitchen-corner-sink-for-your-house/corner-kitchen-sink-blanco/ There was a double cabinet underneath for storage and my sink was a large deep single sink. as in this picture, and as a previous poster mentioned I had the row of drawers to the left of the sink, and then the dishwasher. I never had any issues with it and had it overlooking 2 windows in the corner. I didn't have a problem with having more than one person at the sink, but I can't remember a time when there has every been more than one person at the sink in my house! Now I have a non-corner sink and it's fine, too. |

I redid my kitchen and put in a corner sink. I googled obsessively about them before i did it and look at all the reasons people did not like them and worked around it.
The sink is a large single sink (hate double sinks) and the space in front of the sink is large enough for 2 people to access it The sink corner is the breakfast bar and so is very accessible from the other side It uses the space in my kitchen very well and gives me unbroken countertop space. I think if you dont have 1 and 2 i.e. a small space for the corner sink and it faces an inaccessible corner of your kitchen its probably not a good idea. |
| I hate my corner sink. But the counter comes to a point in front of it vs flat. It is really hard on your back when you are washing dishes and can't lean into the counter. It came with the house but I would NEVER pick to do it! |

My friend has a corner sink in her small kitchen, and it allowed for a much larger counter area she uses for prep work and serving. I don't see a downside if your goal is more counter space.
And I don't get the posters kvetching about not being able to have two people use the sink at the same time. We are a family of 6, and I don't think this has ever been an issue in our home. |

Can you post your layout? Folks might be able to give you some new ideas, for example is either corner accessible from the other side? You would lose the blind corner for kitchen storage, but could gain storage in the other room.
You could also post your layout over on garden web - the folks there are always full of great advice. |

I like when the dishwasher is next to the sink. Open it's door and load without slop. Corner sinks have to have a bank of drawers or a cupboard bewteen the dw and the sink. T he plumbing runs in that to the drain-usually attached to the garbage disposal.
Don't do this. I just got a new sink as part of a reno. It is 16 gauge stainless with 2 bowls on a 36 in base cabinet. That allows for 1 huge bowl . |
| So the plumbing line might be drilled through the cupborad or drawers are not as deep. |
OP here. Thank you for this very practical advice! I guess I need to draw out the room so I can post it. So far I have been using the IKEA planner tool to try different combinations. And I've also put tape all over the actual floor with notes about fixtures and cabinets. The tape is really helping me to image the new layout - like how the open dishwasher door affects the flow and things like that. One of my corners is against 2 outside walls. The other corner is against one outside wall and the bathroom on the other edge. |
The counter behind the sink is where the wine rack goes!

| Our kitchen designer suggested a corner sink and thank goodness we nixed that idea immediately because I know that I would have hated it. Corner sinks seem so...cramped and claustrophobic to me. |
