Inexpensive Dresser

I have had bad luck with Ikea dressers. I have three dressers from them that are 5 years old... and ALL of them have had the bottoms of a drawer fall through. Two of them have had handles break off. One of them has drawers that are messed up somehow and now only open two-at-a-time and sometimes get stuck. Nightmare.

We have 3 IKEA dressers - 2 of them get daily use. They are all over 2 years old and holding up great!

If your taste runs toward the traditional, try estate sales. The estate sale companies advertise in the Post classifieds on Thursday and Friday, and you can check out the pictures of the particular sale on the company's web site to see if they have a dresser/nightstand that you like.

I like World Market's stuff actually - I don't have a dresser, but the desk I bought from them has daily use as I work from a home office, five years later, still doing great. Our dining room table and chairs are also from World Market and we get many compliments on the set.

I have a Room and Board cabinet. It is really lovely, high quality stuff- solid walnut with good, clean lines. Quality and, of course, style are much higher than PB and Crate and Barrel. Too bad their DC store plans have fallen through for the moment. Their stores are great.

CB2 stuff looks great from a design perspective but won't be in the same category as R and B quality wise. They're competing with West Elm.

Craigslsit - here is a link to someone selling a dresser and nightstand from Crate and Barrel:

Look on Craig's List. A beautiful dresser is the easiest thing to find on there.

Craigslisting is very green, but I wouldn't buy used bedroom furniture. The risk of bedbugs just isn't worth the savings.

If you're ok with internet ordering, I hear good things about Home Decorators. Prices are good, styles are attractive.
