We have two HRCS that are not a great commute (but doable, I think) above a pretty good charter that would have a really easy commute. (Bridges, Lee, and IT are the schools, the commute is from North Petworth. We currently take the green line and would prefer to stay with a metro commute, if possible).

I would definitely rerank based on commute. They are all good schools. But keep in mind that Bridges will be moving for 2016-2017.

yes! rerank based on commute! If you end up with a bad commute it will make you unhappy EVERY SINGLE DAY, M-F, all year long.

I don't understand. Are all three a poor commute for you? We're at Lee and it's worth a commute, but not if it will be soul crushing. there are several families that currently live in or near Petworth (and further away). Bear in mind though that Lee will be moving after next year.

I'm at a school we love with a horrible (soul crushing) commute but we manage. The school is worth it.

Bridges would be a great commute; Lee and IT would not be as easy. I know Lee will be moving, but it sounds like it will stay in the Brookland area, right?

Go with the easy commute! You don't realize what a difference it can make but it does.

Thanks everyone! I just changed the rankings with Bridges higher.

Having the same issue, but we are at an up and coming DCPS. I entered last year and it drove me nuts because we were matched with out #1 pick, but turned it down due to the commute.

When I'm running late in the am, I always thank myself for turning down the school that would have been soul crushing. I can put on some sweats, run the kids to school and come back and and get ready for work.

+1. We left a charter after count day because we just could not deal with the commute anymore and moved to our in-boundary school. Best move we made.

And that is the correct choice for your family. Put on those sweats and go to your neighborhood school.

Some of us choose to get up early, make the commute and really dedicate ourselves to the experience at our charter schools. That's ok too.

The school isn't our IB school, but in our same Ward. If we had no other choice, we would be right there with you.

Just wanted to add. If driving, the commute from Petworth to IT/Lee is actually pretty good! Especially after school or work. 7-8 mins in the PM, maybe 12-15 in the AM.

Just to confirm -- you know that Bridges is moving too? To the Mamie Lee building near Ft Totten (don't know the precise distance, but I'd guess it's .75- 1 mile to the Ft Totten metro).
