What's going to happen to my sister?

1. She is eligible for part of his Social security and pension if he has any
2. Their divorce decree didn't say she got part of his retirement savings? If they were married for a long time and she was SAHM that is standard
3. 3 kids and no alimony? Child support?
Op after you ask your sister about these things, to at least give you some more info, think about it this way:
3 children, they may be able to help her in her old age. If not, as some pp's may not so eloquently have stated, yes she will get government support if she is truly destitute, and will have to significantly reduce her standard of living.

A college degree, especially one earned 24 years ago, isn't the ticket to a high paying job it was a few decades ago. I am interviewing someone with a master's degree today for a position that consists primarily of scheduling meetings. It is basically a helper for our admin staff. It is tough out there.

Your sister either needs to go back to school. Work her way up or luck into a better job.

She also needs to stop getting money from your parents (unless they have tons to spare) and start taking advantage of the social programs out there. And of course most importantly she needs to get money from her ex.

As for remarrying your sister has hopefully learned from her current situation that she should not put all her eggs in any man's basket. She needs to be financially stable on her own. I am sure you didn't mean it that way, but your sister should not be looking to marry "to help offset financial disaster".

Good luck to your sister. Perhaps you can research social programs for her.

Young people need to pay attention to this trend or they will be having MAJOR problems. All of these parents' little snowflakes in their super-good high schools who go off to a 4 year party and then.....fix coffee drinks.

.... With huge student loans to pay off--especially for completely unnecessary graduate work they undertake when they decide they can be better than a barista if they just go back to school.

You are describing my mother. She raised us from toddlers with a low paying job, never remarrying and never forcing child support. I finished college with an average amount of debt and have a good career.

If you have not worked for a while...maybe a year or two it's hard to get a job. If you have not worked for 10-20 years, you will have mile problems getting a job. She is lucky to have the low paying job.

If she is at all good looking, she needs to get the gym and work like her life depends on it. Work out hard, get in great shape and then start to socialize with so eligible men. There are many older men looking for someone to spend there life with.

The right Mrs degree would pay better than any schooling.
