If you saw a roach crawling in your favorite restaurant

Anonymous
Last summer, I saw a giant roach while eating on the sidewalk patio at Proof and have yet to go back.

Somehow, it just skeeved me out, even though we were outside (so roach just might have been passing by).

They are in every single restaurant, for sure. especially ones in a city setting. Most places have pest control, but roaches are hard. They can also come in with deliveries of boxes of almost anything.

No restaurant manager wants roaches. It sucks, and sometimes it takes a few days to fix an issue.

OP, please tell us what restaurant it was so that we can avoid going there.

I know this is true. I also know it happens in schools, nursing homes, hospitals, etc. But, when I saw a roach in my kids' favorite pizza restaurant, that ended it for me. We haven't been back in two years.

I also worked in a few restaurants when I was younger, and none of them had roaches or mice.

It was just out for a stroll.

No. I worked in a few restaurants when I was younger. I spent about 9 years working in the restaurants from 1995-2005 and I never saw one roach in the places I worked at. The kitchens were clean, the front of the house was clean, and the management stayed on top of things. Roaches cause me to feel extreme anxiety, I don't know why, but it causes a near panic reaction when I see them. So I couldn't overlook this if I saw one in a restaurant.

I recently stayed at a hotel in Los Angeles (Embassy Suites) and when I woke up from a nap, I went to get some clothes out of my backpack and when I moved it, I saw a roach. I got very anxious and went down to the front desk to let them know. They let me change to a new room, but I checked out the next day and will never, ever stay in that hotel again. And honestly, it kind of made me question the standards of Hilton hotels. Both of the rooms I had in that hotel were not as clean as I would expect and this makes me think that the management doesn't really care. Preventing pest infestations starts with management and employees with high standards and taking pride in their work. The employees that are like "eh, it's good enough" and only care about getting the job done as fast as possible don't have high standards and it usually starts with management. That's not good enough.

Maybe you brought the roach in to the hotel.

I thought about that too, but I'm not sure. I went straight to the hotel from the airport. I had my backpack with me the whole time. The chances that it was already in my backpack are pretty small. I had taken stuff out of it when I set it down on the desk before my nap and didn't see anything, but when I went to get my backpack when I woke up, there it was. After that happened, I looked online to see reviews from others who stayed there and there were a few complaints about roaches. So I'm thinking they probably have a problem with it.
