Would you go back?

Yes.

Maybe not immediately.

I would notify the manager.

Okay, but would you go back after that?

There are roaches and mice occasionally in even the nicest restaurants. I just try not to think about it.

Hell yeah. I found a dead mouse under the table during brunch at one of my local faves -- told the manager, and came back the following week for brunch.

No. I worked in a few restaurants when I was younger. I spent about 9 years working in the restaurants from 1995-2005 and I never saw one roach in the places I worked at. The kitchens were clean, the front of the house was clean, and the management stayed on top of things. Roaches cause me to feel extreme anxiety, I don't know why, but it causes a near panic reaction when I see them. So I couldn't overlook this if I saw one in a restaurant.

I recently stayed at a hotel in Los Angeles (Embassy Suites) and when I woke up from a nap, I went to get some clothes out of my backpack and when I moved it, I saw a roach. I got very anxious and went down to the front desk to let them know. They let me change to a new room, but I checked out the next day and will never, ever stay in that hotel again. And honestly, it kind of made me question the standards of Hilton hotels. Both of the rooms I had in that hotel were not as clean as I would expect and this makes me think that the management doesn't really care. Preventing pest infestations starts with management and employees with high standards and taking pride in their work. The employees that are like "eh, it's good enough" and only care about getting the job done as fast as possible don't have high standards and it usually starts with management. That's not good enough.

Maybe you brought the roach in to the hotel.

OP here. Once I saw a mouse running around a restaurant that I often frequented, but I assumed that it came from outside because it was summer and the front door was open. I notified the server and had no problem going back again.

With this roach issue, I'm torn because the food at this restaurant is delicious and steps away from my office. I didnt find the roach in my food, but crawling on the wall, where I was seated towards the back of the restaurant. This leads me to believe that there are likely roaches in the kitchen...

::sigh::

Yes. I worked in a restaurant and we had the cleanest kitchen, but since the restaurant wss in an old rowhouse in Adams Morgan, we sometimes had roaches, and big rats running around outside on the patio. People leave the uneaten pizza all over the sidewalk and the rats get huge.
We had pest control regularly. The few roaches coming by to say hi doesn't mean the place is dirty. Not having soap in the bathroom would be a bigger indicator.

Yes. Happened once, I notified the manager, and we got free desserts and came back. This was in Texas, though, where it seemed you could get these giant roaches in random places that weren't even related to food or cleanliness. We'd get them in our laundry room and around our fireplace/living room!

I get those in Alexandria on the first floor!

I know my house is clean and I saw a roach in there last fall. They dug up the garden in front of the building and the critters were trying to hide. Anyway, one roach is not an indication of filth.

It would no longer be my favorite restaurant.
