Middle school registration process

Had to fight with a counselor to get my son in advanced classes that he was not recommended for. He's gotten nothing lower than a "B" in any of those classes. Fight for your kid if you think he (and you) can handle the challenge.

Agree. DS is in Compacted Math and was recommended for IM for next year but there are only 6 children in his High School Cluster Compacted Math class that feed into our Middle School. So only 6 6th graders are ready for IM --- no way!! My DD took IM two years ago in 6th grade and at least 25% of the grade was in it and did fine, great even. That had to be over 50 kids and two years later only 6 are ready for it under 2.0??? If your child entering 6th is good in Math (not even great) AND you have concerns that they will be bored, I would definitely fight for being placed in IM! It is too selective now when more kids can successfully handle the challenge.

We are supposed to give a form to our child's math teacher. The form tells the teacher to recommend based on current placement and doesn't seem to allow for skipping 6th grade math. I actually have no idea what the point of the form is.
