I think this is the right number here at Hoover

So half the kids at Hoover will be in compacted math? Wow.

Isn't this based on test scores? How can there be so much disparity? Is it elementary principal
discretion?

I had heard Hoover was excellent -- the old principal from Wayside -- who wants her kids to be
challenged. Good for her!

I went to Hoover at the beginning of the school year to meet the teacher. About half and half between compacted and non-compacted based on the list name of the students. My DS is not in compacted.

Speaking of Hoover, a bit off the topic,

Hoover is a great school. I have an IEP kid there. Every time when the teachers/staff send me message -- it always ends with

"Thank you for all you do to support your child’s learning. Please contact me if you have any questions".

They thank me for what I have been doing to support my own kid's learning. It should be the other way around as they are doing great job! We are so blessed of having Hoover as home school

I often ask my kid if there is bullying at school --- the answer is "No!".

Lots of bullying at Hoover. Lots. Don't kid yourself.

Possible, but my kid has never complained. Maybe he is just too tough to feel being bullied.

How are there only 120 kids in 6th grade at Hoover? Or did you mean there is the same percentage in compacted math at Hoover (50%)? At my child's es (a Pyle feeder), ~25 out of 125 kids are in compacted math, and another 10 kids left for an HGC this year who also qualified. There are a number of kids I would have thought belonged in it as well, but either they missed the arbitrary cut off or their parents declined. My kid is in compacted math so no sour grapes. I am not impressed by the class at all, anyway - they may be going faster than the regular math classes, but it is no more interesting or engaging for my child.

I don't understand? Nobody at Hoover is in compacted math. Hoover is a middle school. Compacted math is math 4/5 in fourth grade and math 5/6 in fifth grade, in elementary school.

Based on the number of 6th grade students taking IM vs taking Math 6 --- yes, compacted math is at ES -- but they will reflect in middle school once they move into

Ok no sour grapes, but does 50% compacted math at other school make your kid less prestigious ? My kid is not in compacted because the regular class is too hard for him already (an IEP student). I have no opinion on the percentage of compacted --- only reporting the fact.

I don't have exact number, but based on observation, it is roughly 50%. BTW, the feeder ES does show roughly 45-50% in advanced level math on MSA test. That is publicly available.

Last year in my child's 4/5 compacted math class
11 (or 12?) from Darnestown ES
7 from Diamond ES

This year they changed things up. Current 5/6 class has
6 from Diamond ES (one from last year left)
3 from Thurgood Marshall

Next years 6th grade IM is the first class coming from areas compacted Math. Much fewer kids in IM in 6th now. DD took IM two years ago along with about 25% of class. DS will take IM next year but it will only be about 5%. DD would not have taken compacted I am sure but she did well in both IM and Algebra so I think it was the right call by her to take it. We will see if it continues to work out okay.
