Also, try to set up some playdates with other children of divorced parents. Your child won't feel alone that way.


And lastly, my children's school has the kids make mother's day and father's day gifts, so I don't worry about that. I do not celebrate their father's birthday. He never celebrated it with me, and he didn't buy me a birthday gift for years before our divorce, so I just let that holiday go.

My children's aunt takes them holiday gift shopping for me. It's a really wonderful, sweet tradition. I give her the money, and off they go. She makes sure they buy something small for their father. They are still young enough not to really understand money.
