Nurse coming to house to give IM shots?

You can totally do them! I have 3 IVF kiddos & my husband didn't do a single shot. The only one I paid the CFA nurse to do was the trigger. Just ice the area for 25 mins & you won't feel a thing. Massage the pio afterwards. You can do this!

OP, where do you live? I think there's a pharmacy on 17th Street in Dupont that helps with IF stuff and will administer shots.

I used Emily Clark for my trigger. It was about $100. She said that she's good luck and asked me to let her know. Sure enough, BFP on my first try. She was so nice. I'd highly recommend her.
I did text her once I had the baby too.

Emily is not good luck. That's ridiculous.

Suggest getting 1 inch, 25 gauge needles for the injection and doing them yourself in your upper thigh. PIO is a lot of fluid to do there, but it's for a couple of nights.

Alternatively, if you have a nurse or medical unit at work, get a prescription for the injection, and the medical unit can take care of it for you.

I did all my IM shots for a DE cycle that lead to a BFP (so 10+ weeks of shots). My friend did a search online and found some youtube videos of transexuals giving tips on how to give yourself a shot. She said they were better than IF videos.

For me, I didn't want to ice the area because I didn't want the oil to seize up and thicken. Based on the needle length alone, it looks like it would hurt A LOT. But I found it to be just a little pick on the surface of the skin, then nothing.

The trick for me was heating up the oil before giving myself a shot. I used a heating pad that you put in the microwave. I let the filled syringe sit on the heating pad for 1-2 mins. Then I gave myself the shot, then massage then sit on the heating pad until it cools.

The best way to find where you should do the shot is put your hand on your hip (fingers forward, thumb in back). Then go down 2-3 inches from the webbing to your thumb. That is the ideal location.

You can totally do it yourself and save $75-$100 per session.

OP here. Thanks for all of the responses. I will try to do one myself this week before DH goes away. I guess I'll have him draw a target and try to use a mirror.

Nurse here, use 23 gauge needle (either 1 inch or 1.5 inch depending on your size) for the PIO shots. The liquid is thick so it does not go through a 25 gauge easily. I tried thigh once and it was painful, so I preferred hip (ice before and heat afterwards for better absorption). Good luck.

Good luck, OP! I had to do my shots a few times when my DH was out of town. You can do it. Eyes on the prize.

I did all my shots myself. My DH isn't a doctor or nurse and it's not his body. If I'm not going to have a medical professional do it I see no reason not to do it myself. I say this as a person who often has my husband do any number of inane things for me (kill bugs, etc). DH often stood next to me and gave me the needles/swabs etc. We sang songs about Science.

You can do it by yourself! I had the nurses draw targets and looked in the mirror. Don't do the thigh it hurts too much! The first one was the hardest but once I actually did it, it wasn't bad at all. I've been doing my PIO and Delestrogen shots by myself every night since December...got my BFP and now counting down the days I have left until I can stop the shots!

No need to look in the mirror! The target area is more on the side than the back of you. Just twist from the hip. If you can stand up (but remove the weight from the leg on the side you are doing the shot on my propping it on a chair), put your hand on your hip and see your thumb, you can do this without a mirror.

For my first cycle, I did all stim shots myself, but hired a nurse (recommended by CFA) for the trigger. I gave myself extra time to take deep breaths for the first stims, but it got easier over time. I did three more cycles (finally conceived and carried DD), and after the first I was able to also do my trigger.

No shame in hiring a nurse if you're squeamish, but I think you will eventually find you can do it yourself.
