| You can take a bus to Vienna metro, or you can drive to a vre station. I would only drive if I was working super early hours, like at your desk by 6:30 am and out the door before 3. |
| Why not look in Burke and take VRE? |
This is what I did when I worked downtown (SAHM now). I was at work by 6:30 and left by 3pm - that was the only way it's doable. DH works in Falls Church at normal hours and it takes him about 45 minutes each way. |
| Sentrayville |
| Centreville to DC during peak hours will take you 1.5-2 hrs driving. If you have to do that more than once or twice a week I'd imagine it's hell. I'd either take the metro or would avoid Centreville. |
| I took Braddock from probably Guinea to 495 one morning and wanted to kill myself. And that's only like a mile. |
|
There are plans to expand Braddock from Guinea to the beltway. The plan includes a bus lane and a commuter garage (that building behind cvs).
Vdot has some stats as to how braddock is one of the most congested roads in Nova. |
| I like Centreville a lot but no way would I live there if I had to commute to DC. |
| Is it really that bad |
| So if I use HOV it will be quicker? |
Yes, HOV is quicker. Especially outside the beltway. If you leave later, the traffic on the HOV lanes inside the beltway can be congested. |
Because the three previous times they widened 66 it solved the problem? Really, enough, you cannot build your way out of vehicular traffic. The sooner everyone realizes this, the sooner we will have public policy and dollars to go to real solutions. |
The problem is Arlington and they won't allow it....it's been a controversial debate for years. |
| No, the problem isn't Arlington. Interstate 66 inside the beltway is technically a parkway, not freeway. That was part of the deal when the feds negotiated cutting through neighborhoods in the late 1970's. The problem is, there is not one example where adding lanes or building new roads has "solved" traffic congestion. You can build until the cows come home and all that will happen is more cars will fill the roads. |
| I think we need new dedicated lanes with mass transit (BRT preferrably). If all we do is widen 66 then people will use the extra capacity to justify moving out to Haymarket and beyond. The cycle will never end. |
