Don't most mattresses smell for a while? We bought an organic crib mattress but still off gassed it for a week or so (did this before the baby arrived). We also bought an Ikea mattress for DD's big girl bed and we just aired it out in our spare room for a couple of days. Even my Stearns & Foster mattress had a new mattress smell when we bought it (I know this is not the most deluxe brand ever, but it's also not bargain basement, and it did have the new mattress smell). I always thought it was like a new car smell.
But the mattress smell never lasted more than a week or so, so the PP with the six-month long smelly mattress, that seems like no good. Even if it's not bad for your health/not toxic, it would just not be pleasant! Who wants to sleep in a smelly bed? |

European environmental standards regarding off-gassing limits etc. |
| I like the smell of a new mattress. Mmmm... |
|
I got a pillow from them, seemed nice and contoured. But it stank! I mean....damn. DW wanted me to stop using it. Why breathe that crap all night long?!
Found a great use for it...put it on the front seat of my car and DC1 (~8) uses it as a little booster. She almost doesn't need a booster but its perfect. Just for picking her up from school, etc. no need to buy a booster seat with arms. YMMV. |
| Our kid's twin mattress is from ikea and it didn't stink any more than any other new mattress would stink from the packaging. The smell was gone after a couple days of airing out and the mattress is great. |
| OP here. I am returning the mattress to Ikea. I can't stand the smell of it. It is a memory foam one and I swear it stinks to high heaven! |

I just read that I can't return the mattress, I can exchange it though. I will have to buy an spring mattress with NO foam.
We have had it for 2 weeks now and it is stinking up DD's entire bedroom and I can smell it in the hallway. I read that it takes a few days to off-gas but two weeks can't be healthy! |
Terrible brag as that is absolutely not safe. We got. Foam mattress from bobs and aired it out for a few weeks and it still stunk. I brought it back. |

It's not the recalled one, is it?

No, those were crib mattresses, and it was about size, not smell. |
| Can you put it in an allergy cover to lock in the stench? |
| 14:08 that's a great idea! |
| Latex is worth every penny over "memory foam". |
