Jewelers have been known to pop out a fine diamond and slap a lower-quality one in its place. Go to someone reputable.
You could also buy some Sugru and mold your own custom guard. |
| Buy a ring snuggie on Amazon. Small piece of rubber tube you can slip onto the ring and cut to adjust the size and fit. For $5 you can get a few to try. |
| Humble brag! |

DH bought my engagement ring a little too big. After I nearly lost it once, we took it to a jeweler to be resized.
They showed us the diamond under a microscope, and marked the identifying features on a piece of paper that I kept (mainly one small inclusion). When we picked the ring up, they put it back under the microscope so that I could verify the same feature(s). Their way of proving that they hadn't switched the stone. The resizing was perfect, and you can't see anything from it on the ring. |
Op here. Was this in dc? |
I think we took it to Jared's. Sorry, it was almost 15 years ago and I don't remember for sure. It was not the same place he'd bought the ring, as that was out of state and I wanted to have it adjusted somewhere locally, so we just went with a big-name store thinking that they'd be less likely to pull one over on us (more to lose from bad publicity). Don't know if that's a valid assumption or not, but it worked out for us. |
