let me guess you trying to troll both OOB and FARMS, FAIL!

? OP here. No I am just surprised at the clamoring for a delay. A delay would have been a mild headache for us but a major problem for families/kids in more precarious economic situations. Delaying or closing seems best reserved for extreme situations, like when busses can't run or something. Especially in DCPS which serves a fragile population. You want a 4 year old left at home with mom's (maybe ok, maybe violent) boyfriend because she has to work and her child's school, which she can walk to, is on a two hour delay?! All so you don't have to feel guilty for bringing your kid in late. Just bring your kid in late!

Why is the boyfriend just sitting around the house all day? He should get a job! And, if he's violent, what the hell is she doing hooking up with him and keeping him around in the first place? If you don't think you can trust your boyfriend around your kid, that's a boyfriend that needs to be gotten rid of.

And, right now, guess what - most of the WMATA buses AREN'T running - and the ones that are, are far and few between running on a very limited schedule.

Well, if mom/families were making better decisions, than DCPS could close based purely on things like road conditions. But mom isn't, so they have to consider that they provide a valuable safe haven, in addition to an education, to literally thousands of DC kids. And then there are the families who are making good decisions - mom and very nice boyfriend both work retail jobs to support the kid, retail jobs they can't just show up to two hours late. I don't see how erring towards keeping schools open is ever a bad thing. If roads are bad for your family, and you have the economic ability to do so, then stay home.

LOL! Most of those low income kids skipped school today!

Unless you a teacher with a high FARMs population, how would you know? And even if most were absent, most does not equal all. Thus some were in school today.

Completely agree with you, OP. This was the right call from DCPS.

I live adjacent to a neighborhood with high FARMS population, and can tell you for a fact that in comparison to every other day, the buses were empty, and no kids were on the streets walking. I'd wager most of the classrooms barely had any kids in them. If anything, if they want to insist on keeping the school open on days like this, just so that kids can eat and have a place to go, they could probably skip classes set up the gym/cafeteria with all day activities because it is skeleton population, plus maybe spare some of the teachers a horrible and dangerous commute in (since many of them do not live in DC).

From that website, here are WMATA buses that currently have NO SERVICE and are NOT RUNNING:

3Y, 7Y, 11Y, 13Y, 16X, 16Y, 31, 34, 37, 39, 60, 64, 74, 82, 93, 94, A2, A7, A9, A11, A12, A42, B8, B9, D1, D3, D4, D5, D8, E6, F14, G2, G8, H1, H6, H8, H9, K2, K9, L1, M4, M6, N3, P17, P19, S1, U5, U6, V5, V9, W1, W5, W6, W8, W13, X1, X3, and X8.

That's 58 bus routes that are currently NOT RUNNING.

In fact, only 8 buses ARE running on their regular schedules. The ones that are left are either on a limited route, not going to all stops, and/or are on a limited schedule, with far fewer buses running the route and much longer waits between buses.

The WMATA website said it and made it so.
