I'm from Chicago as well, not DC and I agree with you. I still would not have worn that last night.

I thought it looked like a cocktail dress too. Definitely wrong for the occasion.

But she needs to play up her arms to play down her hips and butt, which are huge/fat.

The assless speaks.

Oh my God I thought it was such a breath of fresh air to have a First Lady wear something other than a suit or some other boring outfit. She's gorgeous. Her dress was gorgeous. It was appropriate in my opinion, but I am also from California by way of Europe so I think I may be a little more liberal about such things.

You haven't seen the fabulous women of Georgetown in their Tory Burch boots! Style, style, style.

Okay this is ridiculous... can someone tell me how Michelle's dress has become a political discussion? This doesn't belong in this section, it should be an off-topic discussion.

b/c studies show there is an inverse proportion between style and political efficacy as a first lady

Just Google it.

Wrong dress, wrong place.

It can be moved if it needs to be, I didn't think of posting it somewhere else. Oops. Guess I was looking for the opinions of people who were interested in politics, not fashion as to the appropriateness.

I'm not citicizing what she wore, I liked the dress. I have seen her in great suits that aren't dowdy. Regardless of it being Michelle Obama I thought it was not appropriate for the event.

Exactly. She needs to look more presidential since she is now the first lady.

Totally agree. I thought it was a beautiful dress and she looked nice in it but it was completely wrong for the event.

Didn't like the dress and thought it was cocktail like. But WTF on her figure??? That's completley out of line--I thought we were allowed to a variety of shapes in this era? Come on be nice.

Every time the Obama family farts, it makes the news.

Well, they were ON TV last night. Of course it was in the news. And we all had our fair share of Bush family news....

It's not news, it's filler. Can you tell the difference?
