What kind of beer to buy for guests?

Yuck to both

Oh, great. A beer snob. The most insufferable species of snob.

"If it's not a growler from an obscure brewery in central Iowa, I don't want to know about it."

So unlike the wine snob.

Commercially-obtainained beers tend to be either too hoppy or too bland.

Why not just make your own?
All you need are hops, barley, yeast and water, plus some sterile equipment. It couldn't be easier!

Yuck. I love lagers and I hate, hate, hate ales and porters. I would be so unhappy if all you had were microbrew ales and porters. I don't care how much they cost!

There are people who love IPAs, and people who hate them. Same for Belgian beer. And there are people who count carbs (or just want something super light).

So, one IPA, one something Belgian, and Michelob Ultra or Bud Light.
If it's summertime or I know women are coming who like it, I'll add a wheat beer.

DC Brau has a ton of different varieties out right now including seasonal specials, so that's nice if you can afford it. (Per 6 it's a little pricey, but nice to support the local guys.)

I don't drink it but many of my guests actually prefer it. So let them drink the cheaper stuff. I don't want to waste the good beer on them!

Beer drinker here.
Some of my favorite craft beers: Dogfish Head 60 minute, Flying Dog Raging Bitch, Union Craft Duckpin. They're easy to find at Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, etc.
My DH and BIL love Troegs Mad Elf.

This sounds perfect to me. (And shout out to my homestate for Yuengling!)

The idea was to add a craft beer to the commercial beers listed, not replace them.

It is interesting ...wine is more caloric vs beer.

You really can't go wrong with this suggestion. Yeungling is a good, inoffensive beer that people who don't like Miller, Budweiser, etc will drink.

Some type of “light” beer - Coors light, Miller light (when I drink beer, this is what I drink)
Corona
Blue Moon
Stella Artois

Barf

If you are providing beer, at least get GOOD beer. No major brands. The only major brand I would consider is Sam Adams. But I would go with a variety. Maybe get a variety pack of something localish?

Corona, Blue moon, anchor steam.
