Taxi in front of house

Op here. He is not causing a disruption. I guess it just makes me a little uncomfortable that he can see the neighbors and mine comings and going and I just don't like the idea that he could be watching us when we play outside (my parents always were a little over protective and seems like it rubbed off on me). Sounds like people think I am being silly. Thanks for the perspective.

OP, I can see where you're coming from. It would be weird to have a stranger stationed outside your house. I would not want someone to be watching me while I was outside with my kids.

For the PPs who say no big deal, would it change your answer if it wasn't a cab driver but just some guy sitting in a car? Would you really have no problem with a cab driver sitting outside your house every day for hours??

Yes, I would truly have no problem with a cab driver sitting in his car outside my house all day. It's a public street. He's not bothering anyone.

You people tell homeowners to MYOB when their neighbors shine spotlights into their windows every night, but now it's ok to call the cops on an off duty cab driver?

Is there any chance that cab driver is white?

Good gravy. I think that's one of the trade-offs of city living, that you aren't going to have as much privacy as someone who has an acre in the exurbs.

Its not loitering to sit in your car on a public street, as long as you are in a legal parking area.

To the pps saying "no biggie" you live with it all hours of the day and night, loud talking in the street, etc., scaring little kids when they walk home from school then come talk to me.

On what grounds?

Loitering. His place of business should be not to sit in a neighborhood and using it as his "office."

Pretty sure he is parking and not loitering. Unless the street sign reads "No parking if you remain in your vehicle." These knee jerk call the police people are ridiculous. Go buy a 4 acre spread in the country if you don't want people around.

Why don't you just walk over and ask him what he's doing? Start a chat --perhaps it's part of his job, like a personal driver for someone.

Whatever the case, get more info.

Does it matter if OP lives in a suburban neighborhood rather than in the down and dirty grittiness of DC?

I would be suspicious too.

I sure wish I had enough money to be able to afford to live in the down and dirty grittiness of DC.

Park your car where he normally parks. Then he'll have to find somewhere further from your house.

I"d only care if the engine was running for a while. Otherwise I'd view it as another set of eyes on the neighbourhood and help to increase safety- he'll notice anything suspicious too. Honestly, I'd probably just say "I notice you are in the neighbourhood a lot- do you have a card if I ever need your service?" It lets him know you are aware of his presence and also you may luck out if you ever need a witness/ride.

Let me guess, you moved wayyyyyyy to the back of the neighborhood so that no one else would park near your house
