I think that the above statement may be a bit gratuitous. Looking at National Merit Finalists, STA usually has 8-10, while Landon has 1-2. In most years, those boys in the top 10 at STA are usually National Merit Finalists with a few exceptions. There are a host of boys at STA that are in the top third of the class who have 2200+ SATs and very high grades. These guys are usually in the hunt for the Ivy League schools. That kind of competition is routine at STA and is rare at Landon. There may be 2-3 kids at Landon in each class who have those kinds of measurables. This does not mean that Landon does not have a talented student body, it just means the academic heft at STA is very deep. Having a 90 GPA at STA is quite an accomplishment and usually means that the student will have a good shot at top schools. Not sure if the same GPA at Landon opens the same doors. Biggest factor should be which school provides the best fit for your son.
