What is good on sourdough bread?

OP here, wow, thank you for all the replies! (sourdough and orange marmalade, though? )

It sounds like french toast is the winner. Do you think that would hold out in a lunch box til lunch time? Obviously I couldn't use syrup, but I could dip it in cinnamon sugar, which is how they often like their french toast.

I love sourdough, but not for French toast. I'd try ham and cheese with a thin spread of marmalade or apricot jam.

omg I love sourdough, I think it's best toasted or used in a hot sandwich like a grilled cheese, ham & cheese, eggplant...so good. OP get with the program LOL

Day after thanksgiving turkey sandwich - turkey, mayo, stuffing and cranberry sauce. Best sandwich ever.

Love roast beef on it (esp. tri-tip if you can find it). Also good w/ ham & cheese.

Ha, well, my instincts were right on, then. I did do a grilled cheese for yesterday's lunch. But they didn't like it. But all it had on it was cheese, since one doesn't like mayonaise. Grilled cheese isn't as good after you've had it in your lunch box all morning. (Though when I did it on regular bread before, they did like it.)

These other things (the savory ones) sound great for me, but many are too complicated for a packed kid's lunch. For me. I'm no Martha Stewart. But I'll remember them for a lunch at home.

Maybe they would like grilled cheese with a sundried tomato or olive tapenade or roasted red pepper spread? Depends on your kids, really! TJs makes a wonderful red pepper spread that the kids might like. And it would give a stronger flavor with the cheese to overcome the sourdough, I think.

havarti
spouts or lettuce
mayo/mustard

on toasted sourdough of course

Toast the bread to mask the sour dough taste

Try making into "pizzas", cheese sandwiches with sprouts and havarti, or just send it here. I love sourdough.
