I'm sorry, I just read more thoroughly and saw the latter is an extension for Castle Panic. Thanks for the recommendation. |
completely disagree-Stratego and Risk are strategy/battle games and the games you mention my boys never took to, they liked set but don't play very long. Not even close. Castle Panic was the biggest waste of money. |
There are better strategy/battle games if that is what floats their boat. Settlers of Caaan Ticket to Ride Empire Builder (but it's too old for OP's child) Puerto Rico Pandemic (also maybe too old) |

I played a lot of boardgames, pre-kids, and I think you can do better than Stratego or Risk. I play Stratego with my 6 year old sometimes and I get completely bored and often speed the game up just to get it over with.
Boardgamegeek is a great resource to find all sorts of games. They have a holiday gift guide at: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/Board_Game_Gift_Guide_2014 I'm not much of a wargamers, so I've never played it, but you might try: Memoir 44: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/10630/memoir-44 |
| Barnes and nobles has a really good game section--actually more than one for different age groups. |
in our house Stratego and Risk are favorites, we own a lot of these and they rarely get pulled out. maybe for perspective, my kids also love chess, checkers, scrabble, apples to apples, monopoly. |
| Settlers of Catan. |
Np here. Those are our kids' favorites, too. |
Not Memoir 44! The instruction booklet is at least 30 pages and it takes half an hour to set up the game. Maybe for older kids, but my nine year old hates it. (I do too.) |
