We didn't hold our son back per se -- he simply has a September b-day and missed the cut-off for K by a couple weeks -- but what we did was enroll him in full-day pre-K (8:30-2:45). We did this for two reasons: to keep him busy and engaged, and to help prepare him for the transition to full-day Kindergarten (we're in Montgomery County). He loves school. The pre-K program has a nice balance of social and play-based learning as well as academics (language arts, math, library day, music, art, PE, etc.). |
