Most irritating about your ADHD kid

My 10 year old ds is exactly like this and I never in a million years would let him be labeled as ADHD. This is a discipline issue op and nothing more

My child is probably be dx with ADHD before the end of the school year. Is this an ADHD behavior or a personality behavior? In short, some times my son is incredibly obnoxious. I'm trying to sort out what is medical and might be mitigated by meds and what is truly behavioral and might need some sort of behavioral therapy.

Thx

Are you kidding?

My 7 yr old DS with Asd/Asperger's does the exact same thing. If you let him, he will debate everything and nothing will get done. I am trying to tell his teachers not to engage with him in this manner but they don't have a clue. Most school resources are devoted toward academic remediation and very little social and behavioral supports that our kids need.

Thanks for the swipe at ADHD kids, PP!

ADHD comes with regulation issues - so yes, trying to engage in argument instead of meekly accepting responsibility can be a trait of people with ADHD. These people are not dishonest or purposefully disrespectful, however sometimes they keep trying to get an issue crystal clear (to carefully define their share of the blame, for ex) even at inappropriate times when everybody wants closure already.

They can't see the forest for the trees, basically. It's a maturity issues, the frontal cortex matures slower than for other people.

I am not taking a swipe at any kids. If there is a swipe here it is directed to parents who jump on this label and then proceed to ask horrible questions like this about their own children

Op it would probably help if you read some of Rick Lavoie's books.

Never stops eating and is hardly ever full. Yet stays dangerously skinny.

Honestly, that honor belongs to the OP.

Imagine if this thread was titled, "Most irritating [thing] about your.. Autistic kid or kid in a wheelchair..."
People would be incensed or calling Troll.
