Yes, the sooner you file, the sooner you'll get benefits. Filing online probably will get the ball rolling the fastest. Most cases are pretty straightforward and get approved quickly. As a PP stated, most of the time when you quit you're not eligible, but certain circumstances ("good cause") make you eligible. |
| The process was really not that bad. I live in Maryland and I was laid off in 2008. I filed (online) and was required to submit that I was applying to at least 2 jobs per week (if I recall correctly). I received benefits for about 9 months. It was my first (and only) time. From what I remember- you file immediately and just report any income you receive (as in your last paycheck). Once you stop receiving paychecks- it will kick in. |
