Is it OK to apply to only one school?

Pit is not the easiest school to get into. I went there. I would apply to at least several.

Our kiddo got waitlisted at a super safety. Apparently the admissions people didn't believe he'd actually go there -- even if he got in.
Don't assume anything. It's a different world now. Apply to a couple more schools. If your first school is on the common app, it's just a few more clicks on the website anyway (and a few more dollars).

I'm 9:45. After reading this, I'm revising my position and putting my vote with this post. My DC applied ED, and so she was locked in and it didn't matter if she freaked out in March. With Pitt, it sounds like OP's kid won't be locked in. So why not weigh and fully explore at least a few different colleges.

Pitt has rolling admissions. Early applicants can hear back very quickly. This is a school where getting the application in early is a clear advantage. I've not heard of Pitt issuing a "Tufts syndrome" rejection. Just from my kids' friends over the last 4 years though, the apps from area kids are going way up. The few we know who decide to go to Pitt really like it. (Kids who want an urban campus typically love Pitt.)

Both of my kids applied to Pitt in August or early Sept ( about 4 and 5 years ago respectively) and had their acceptances in October. If you applied early enough for a quick reply then you should be fine. Love rolling admission! It takes a lot of stress out of the application process. FYI-they didn't end up there.

I did it! Georgetown and done. Granted that was a number of years ago.

08:52 - Now, that's something I would NOT recommend nowdays. Completely different case than Op's. You will get an answer from Pitt in three weeks. You still have plenty of time to apply to other schools. With GT you won't have that option.
