CDC threw this nurse under the bus

Anonymous
Of course they are saying she's stable - she's just barely into her Ebola ordeal. She will be getting a lot worse before she gets better.

YUP THEY THREW HER UNDER THE BUS...AND THEY EXPECT US TO TAKE CARE OF THE NEXT VICTIMS?

Hmmmm

And, a 26 year old is not experienced enough to be dealing with these types of cases. The hospital should have used more seasoned nurses.

ITA. CDC's "meticulous" "protocol" WRT protective suiting doesn't even cover the ears, sides of face, or hair. I've had vomit in my hair before and not discovered it until the next day (don't ask). She could have touched her hair and later touched her face. Lots of possible exposure routes when your whole body is not covered.

Thank you for explaining this because I've been wondering exactly what the protective gear they are using is. It sounds like standard hospital gear for more common infections, and is probably inadequate for someone like this. I'm surprised they are having health care workers treating something as lethal as Ebola with parts of their body exposed.

Here is my issue with the CDC - they SAY that there was a breach in protocol, but cannot say what that breach was. How can you claim something that you don’t know?
This makes one wonder whether (a) If the “protocol” was not appropriate for treating this virus or (b) If transmission of this virus is easier than they are claiming. Until we KNOW HOW she contracted this virus, I will be suspicious of what we are being told.

All of them believe that the cdc is not telling the whole truth and it is more contagious than reported. They also believe that we need to disallow travel into the United States from affected countries. It is crazy how different the cdc stance is from the doctors and medical professionals in the hospitals.

+1000. The CDC and WHO is so far behind this Ebola outbreak. They had their chance this spring and did not step up care in Africa. It is too late. Drastic measures are needed. How many times can they board an airplane every time someone vomits? How are the airlines and airports going to keep their bathrooms Ebola free? The CDC blaming this young nurse is just outrageous! Our hospitals are not ready for Ebola neither are the airlines that bring these carriers either.

Just so long as you vote Democratic. You know, Republicans have slashed "non-essential" government, and this is the result. Happy? And look over NIH - they'd probably already have a vaccine. http://www.salon.com/2014/10/13/nih_director_ebola_vaccine_would_likely_exist_if_not_for_budget_cuts/

Hmmmm
I'm sure you'll feel better if she dies than your ass won't have to pay a dime. You don't mean "expect us to take care." You mean "me take care." Don't put everybody in your self-righteous, self-centered equation.

Nice try to play politics here. Fact is that funding has actually increased in recent years for NIH:

According to the NIH’s own budget data, it spent $29 billion in 2007, and that rose to $31 billion in 2010. It then dipped to $29 billion in 2013, but rose to $30 billion in fiscal year 2014, which just ended.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, funding for global health programs at the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development are still growing so far. That budget was $6.5 billion in 2008, and grew to $8.2 billion in 2012 before declining to $8.1 billion in 2013.

In 2014, that budget rose again to $8.4 billion.

I did vote democrat and frankly I am just so sick of all politicians. I just want leaders who actually take action and put our tax dollars to good use. We need protection from Ebola, Terrorists, new infrastructure. Time to step up world leaders.

Poor thing. I hope she makes a full recovery.

She just recently posted about getting her Critical Care Certification. There is no way she should have been taking care of the first "in the wild" case of Ebola in the US.

Tom Frieden is a clown and should step down from the CDC after making these outrageous statements. I still have yet to hear a valid reason why travel has not been banned from these countries? What is the impact of keeping 150 travelers from Africa out of the US vs. forcing an entire plane of passengers to make an unscheduled landing? Yes, that happened last night. How about having to take ambulances out of service? How about losing health professionals to quarantine or worse, illness? How about being unable to accept patients by ambulance in an ER (Dallas)? How about having to monitor hundreds of at risk family, friends and neighbors for close to a month? Just a handful of patients like this could completely overwhelm the system.

My prediction: doctors will start ignoring CDC and government and handle this their way.

Disgusting behavior by this administration, but what else is new?
