Does your period hit you even harder than usual now that you're in your 40s?

Yes, in fact avoid pool 2 days of it each month in summer sooooo heavy, clotty, and just a train wreck. I'm 47.

Yes, used my Mirena all the way from my after my pregnancy into menopause. No periods....it was fabulous.

Same here. I barely go out of the house. I am 42. Now, after this thread, will be asking my gyn about Minera. misery.

Ablation. Life Changer...... 42 and free, never felt so liberated before. No pain, outpatient, $450 after insurance. Last period was Aug 2013. Used to be super heavy, 2+ weeks! awful.

Get your iron tested. I'm on the upper end if 30's and mine have been hell like never before in my life. Iron supplements made a huge difference. Especially with the horrific PMS which I never had before really.

Yes, I am 45 and my periods are hell.

When I was younger they never fazed me, yet now in middle age they do. I am not on birth control or anything, but I do share your symptoms. I have the severe fatigue which lasts usually 3-4 days. I could easily sleep the whole 3-4 days through if I could. I also do experience nausea which also affects my appetite. My head hurts and I am just miserable.

Now that I am getting older, I am getting my period more often, sometimes every 25 days. So it seems I am always on my period.

I cannot wait for menopause to hit and for my periods to be just a bad memory.

My period has changed to quite heavy in the first 48hrs and then spotting. I'm 46. FWIW, I switched to the Diva cup a year ago because tampons weren't cutting it during the first day and then overkill for the rest. Kicking myself for not trying it earlier-it's a life changer.

Nope - mine went away almost entirely after I had my child at 36. I would still feel a little PMS-y, but some months I had one tampon's worth of blood - the entire period - and some months I had nothing. This was off the pill and then on the pill. Then I got a mirena at 40 and the period disappeared completely.

I don't miss it, but it is weird not having it. And it's probably good I'm not having sex regularly (ok, at all) because having that confirmation every month that you're not pregnant is kind of comforting.

Me too. Had mine at 44. When I had to change plans for camping one weekend because I got my period, I realized my period had taken over my life.

Me too, at 44, after a super tampon and a pad did not stop my flow long enough to get a haircut. I had blood flowing down my legs. It was horrifying.

OMG, yes. I just went back on the pill bc of it even though DH has had a vasectomy. I'm on Seasonique, so period comes once every 3 months. My gyn says she has tons of patients in their 40s on the pill for this reason.

yes insomnia... I am so tired all the time!

+1 My sister had warned me that things could get really bad before things finally stopped altogether. That was very true.

I'm 44, and have been on the same low dose BC pill for years (which used to mitigate all the crap I've just listed, but doesn't seem to any more). Should I go off the pill? This really sucks and I missed work today. My mom had her menopause very late (55) so I guess I'm in perimenopause, but still get regular periods.

Anyone else going through this nonsense? Especially the nausea?

48. I have very heavy bleeding with heavy clotting. Spotting a day before. I am exhausted during certain days of my cycle. I have headaches (migraines) but have always had these. The also seem much more likely on certain days of my cycle. The doctor recommended birth control pills, which actually made the headaches worse. I think most of the symptoms are linked to my estrogen levels starting to decrease as part of perimenopause. IMO, it's worth trying 3-6 months off the BC pill, but I would first journal your symptoms daily for 3 months before going off and journaling your symptoms after. It was only by journaling that I was able to see patterns across cycles.

Get checked for fibroids.

I'm so glad to hear that there are many like me with this problem. I've been miserable. Waiting for menopause to end this hell.
