what are the drawbacks of a corner lot?

Lack of privacy, increased noise, not sure about whether they are easier targets for criminals.

Like most things in life, I think it depends on the corner lot, and what you want.

We have one, but it works pretty well for us. We moved to MoCo after years in G'town, so were unfazed by people on the sidewalk, etc. We want to live somewhere that feels vibrant. The backyard is huge for the neighborhood and was grandfathered in with a fence on all sides (has been prohibited by code for the last 10 years or so). We added extra plantings inside the fence and there are municipal trees outside it buffering the sidewalk as well, so it's very private and we live out there when we can. It's nice only having a neighbor on one side after years of two party walls. We actually feel it makes us less of a robbery risk as we are on a pretty visible corner. There was a rash of burglaries in our neighborhood a few years back and our block was never hit.

Downsides -- shoveling (although I have officially made that DH's problem since we have 2 under 2 , some trash in the long side yard that fronts the street. I think the traffic will be more of an issue as the kids get older and want to go out and play by themselves, but that never crossed our childless minds when we bought.

Overall, you are more exposed but the tradeoffs may well be worth it, depending on what you want.

I have a corner lot

1) downside - two streets to deal with; a lot of snow to shovel; three yards to deal with.

2) upside - I have about 20% more yard than neighbors; plenty of space to park "in front of my house;" only have one side neighbor and more open space to look at.

As a whole, I prefer it as we have more space and yard. I also love my house, which helps.

I find it hard to find a house to love around here so if you like a house on a corner lot go for it. We did. And we're happy with it. I would not turn down a house you really like just because it's on a corner. Unless it's a busy street but that's really a different consideration.

I'm confused about the one neighbor thing, don't you still have two? All of the corner houses I've seen are laid out like this (where each H is a house) and the corner house is angled slightly.

We love our corner lot, though we don't have sidewalks so nothing to shovel. We've had neighbor dads and kids play catch in our yard because their lots are too small. Actually, because we're so set back I feel like we have more privacy then the people on the street because their houses sit closer to the street.

The only corner lots I see are ones I drive by...hence, I'm not interested in having headlights constantly shining at my house and the sound of the added traffic. Talk about constantly having to leave the blinds shut tight.

The house would have to be spectacular and with a hedge line along the street.

Ummm that doesn't make any sense, you are saying all corner lots are on main streets?

We love our corner lot. Yes, there are two streets but they are not major streets (by any stretch), so it's not a problem. We have a huge, flat back yard and a big front yard. We have a side-load garage (for all of those DCUMers who hate the look of the big garage in front) and no neighbors (too close) on that side to deal with. We also have a park across the street, so no neighbors in the front either. Finally, the bus stop is right outside the front door. No waiting in the cold or rain, kids just hustle out when they see the bus coming.

You can't really see it is corner lot by the pics, but if you look at the map you can see it. It is not a square lot though.. more like rounded, if it makes sense?
