There was a rash of burglaries in our neighborhood a few years back and our block was never hit.

Downsides -- shoveling (although I have officially made that DH's problem since we have 2 under 2 ;), some trash in the long side yard that fronts the street. I think the traffic will be more of an issue as the kids get older and want to go out and play by themselves, but that never crossed our childless minds when we bought.

Overall, you are more exposed but the tradeoffs may well be worth it, depending on what you want. [/quote]
