Reality is that JH is severely under enrolled. They will have to redistrict soon. Ive heard the rumors. Don't expect the school board to be totally forthcoming re that.
I live in Rosemont. We chose private for several reasons, one of them religious. We are districted for Maury and I did my homework. I think it is a good school with heavy parent involvement. It has a great principal. I know TONS of people whose kids go to Maury, who participate to make the school better and support it. For example, look at all the fundraisers just to redo the playground. We contribute to all of them when asked to support the school. The cons I have been told, it is basically at capacity. Not as bad as McAurthur, but it is busting at the seems. There really is no where for trailers to go, so I know of a few people who weren't able to get in (moved here during the school year or just before Labor Day) and there literally wasn't any room for their kid. At least one is now at Barrett. Not sure about the others. If the principal leaves, I would be worried. Principals seem to make such a huge difference and Maury's is supposed to be super awesome, from what I understand she is one of the main reasons Maury has improved so much over the last 10 years. Overall it seems to have a great sense of community, lots of neighborhood kids, lots of involved families from all income levels. It is one of the better ACPS elementary schools, along with Mason, McArthur, Lyles Crouch and Barrett. |
Will the new development in Potomac Yard be zoned for JH and boost enrollment? |
Potomac Yard is zoned for JH. That won't necessarily make any difference in enrollment. |
