Dress code at FCPS middle schools

Low cut jeggings? Please say no.

What kind of message does that send? It may not be a great look for some, but unless it is affecting their performance, why do you care?

The trend back then involved big, long shirts that covered the butt when wearing leggings.

I've seen this at my dd's school, and while not obscene, it's trashy. No matter how thin, no one wants to watch butts jiggle.

Agreed. I'm not sure how leggings are any different than skinny jeans or jeggings or whatever. Frankly, I think this is more appropriate than some of the things I've seen kids wear (showing butt crack, cleavage, etc.)

Well, butt crack and cleavage are obviously not appropriate, but I really don't think leggings (or jeggings) are either. They are like tights and long underwear in that they belong under other things which cover the crotch area and backside. In general, leggings are not suitable pants because too often they are see-through and show things that should not be visible, and when they are not they're usually too tight and cause VPL or other unsightly things. Skinny jeans at least do not generally risk showing one's rear end or underwear through one's clothing.

I wish wearing leggings as pants without another bottom or a top that covered one's rear was against the dress code, but since it currently isn't our daughters will just have to deal with the family rule that leggings are not to be worn as pants except possibly during exercise. Definitely not at school. That's completely inappropriate according to our family's standards.

While we're at it -- no one should be able to wear:

speedos
bikinis (90% of women shouldn't be allowed to wear them)
pants that sag, revealing butt crack (both purposeful and, in the case of old men, not)
baby doll dresses (look good on no one)
short skirts that reveal underwear when seated (or not seated!)
anything from the 80's or 80's "inspired"
Uggs

15:56 again, and I completely agree that no one should be wearing the bold items at school. The speedo and bikini belong at the beach or pool only (an example of wearing the right clothes for the right activity, which is why leggings might be OK as exercise pants) -- and I think certain bikinis are too skimpy and ridiculous to be worn at all.

The other two (sagging pants & skimpy skirts) should not be worn at all, at school or anywhere else really, because butt crack and underwear should be covered.

Not sure why that's LOL, seems like common sense to me not to dress in an indecent and overly revealing way.

The other stuff I'm not bothered by. Doesn't matter if I think it looks good as long as it isn't inappropriate.

They do not include no jeggings/ tights in the dress code, sorry. I know it looks bad, but they just don't

Why are you all teaching your daughters to be ashamed of their bodies and that it is more important that they don't distract boys vs wearing comfortable clothing?

It's meant to be sarcastic. I meant that NO ONE should be allowed to wear any of that stuff - ever (including adults) and the fact that we, as adults, wear these things in public, is much worse than leggings on teens in school.

Can't believe I had to spell that out.

No one said anything about being ashamed of bodies or distracting boys...we just don't appreciate seeing camel toe.

I'm not. I'm teaching my daughters that we don't show our butts, crotches, or underwear, in our outfits. If I had sons, I would teach them this too. Just because something is comfortable does not mean it is acceptable. FWIW, I would have the same stance on appropriate clothing even if my daughters attended a girls-only school where there weren't any boys to distract, or if I had sons attending a boys-only school with no girls to worry about.

Oops, sorry . Having a bit of a bad day and apparently my sarcasm meter is off. In that case we are in complete agreement and I apologize for my post in response to yours.

Would you wear opaque tights with a fitted tee? That's what leggings are. They're tights without feet.

I'm sure some people do, and that's part of the problem.
