How Do I Know When It's Time?

Anonymous
I am so sorry for you. We went through this with our beloved dog last month. I hope you can take comfort in knowing how loved your dog was, and what a happy life he had as a part of your family.

For anyone who faces this issue, there is a pet quality of life scale that we found very helpful:

Hugs to you and your family. Think of your dog running free and happy, with no more pain or weakness.

He had another very unexpected episode today after a bad night last night. I think it was his way of telling me it was time to go. It was awful. I feel empty. I stayed with him the whole time and told him how much I loved him and stroked his beautiful fur. And then he was gone. And my heart is broken. But I truly know deep down that he's not suffering anymore. For those of you still grappling with such a decision, I am so sorry and I hope you eventually find peach as well.

Your dog was lucky to have you, OP. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I wish peace and healing for you and your family.

Don't know why OP posted the question when he/she had made the decision already. Posted the question in the morning and dog is gone by afternoon.

You need to read more carefully. The 2nd post by OP was later in the day after an unexpected episode made it apparent that the dog's quality of life had significantly declined.
