Has anyone developed food allergies as an adult?

Yep, developed an allergy to soy as an adult. And soy is in freaking EVERYTHING! So annoying!

Developed an allergy to certain fruits in my twenties -- cherries, apples, peaches, plums.

Don't know if it's an allergy, but definitely an intolerance causing intestinal distress - red onions. Also get incredibly bloated and uncomfortable after eating chick peas (small amounts are ok, but anything more than that and I end up looking 5 months pregnant).

DH has developed an allergy to apples.

Yes, at 42 I developed a seafood allergy which sucks for me since I am Asian and love raw seafood.

I ate some fish and the back of my throat tightened up randomly.

Now I have to carry an Epi-pen around.

PP, not to hijack, but this sounds like me. Search out "oral allergy syndrome". I can tolerate these fruits outside the spring birch season, especially if peeled. For some reason, oranges are also off limits to me, but only at certain times of the year and only the skin. If I peel themand wash my hands before eating, I don't have a reaction.

None of this developed until my mid 20s. I still get random hives which I assume are food related, but still haven't figure out what it is. Then again, I've not kept a food diary or done an elimination diet as they're more of a PITA than worrisome.

OP, I have a friend who developed some severe food allergies and allergies to fragrances when she was in her 50's.

OP here again. Thanks for all the stories - makes me feel like I'm not totally crazy. I'm not currently in DC FYI - I grew up in DC but first developed my pollen allergies while living overseas, and we are overseas again (maybe I should just stay home?!) and now I'm having this new set of problems.

I just got a flu shot today and asked the nurse about whether or not I should get one since I have this suspicion about the eggs and she told me to go ahead but be ready with an antihistamine and I did feel like I had a very slight reaction with some minor face swelling

I will go back to my allergist here and ask to be tested for eggs but in the meantime I'm trying to avoid eating them straight, which is very difficult since I love them (
