Kindergarten DD doesn't pee all day at school

I was the same way. I hated public restrooms and even at that age just never used them. I didnt change this habit until pregnancy!!

Please don't respond unless you first know what you're talking about. I realize you were probably trying to be helpful, but it can actually be dangerous to withhold urinating for long periods of time. A very full bladder which isn't released can cause damage to the tiny blood vessels in the kidney because the urine ends up backing up into the kidneys which causes extra pressure. There can also be infections. My pediatrician said that he also attended rounds at the hospital where there was a child there who needed a kidney transplant as a result of the urine always being withheld for too long before being eliminated, it being backed up in the kidneys, and repeat infections.

OK, calm down. The PP is right -- some kids are fine holding it a long time. My son can go from 7:30pm at night until noon the next day. It doesn't bother him, he doesn't have any medical issues. He just has a super bladder. My sister is the same way. When we were kids on a car trip, everyone would be bursting to go by the time we arrived at grandma's house, and she was always fine being last in the bathroom because she honestly didn't have to go like the rest of us. Please don't make something out of nothing. If a kid is holding pee out of fear or some other psychological issue, it should be addressed. Otherwise, let it go.

Sounds like great advice to follow versus that of a pediatrician. Thanks!

Maybe she just has a strong bladder.

In high school, I hated using the bathrooms so I peed before I left the house and usually didn't have the urge again until I came home from school which was about seven hours later. And I drank milk with my lunches.

Some kids just have strong bladders, I suppose.

My DD, now 20, always held her pee until after school. I always found it impressive.

Just had this same situation with my Kindergarten DD. The first week she didn't use the restroom at all (they even have one in her classroom). Once I realized she wasn't going pee, I asked why, and she said she was scared that the toilet was going to be really loud flushing (she doesn't like the auto-flush toilets, or lots of the super strong flush public toilets). We talked about what she could do to make it not so scary (covering her ears before flushing, finishing everything else before flushing so she could make a quick exit, etc). This week, she's been going at least once a day (more often twice). Crazy what little ones can work up in their minds.

This was me in kindergarten and elementary school! I was too scared to ask to leave the room (a total rule follower/people pleaser) and often got too focused to notice that I needed to go. I did get a massive UTI from holding it too long which led to many other UTIs and related issues, so I urge you to take this up with your dd and also the teacher. My teacher - even in 3rd grade! - used to have a special secret signal to remind me to go to the bathroom.

I didn't use the school toilets in kindergarten because I didn't know how to flush them.
