fish for school lunch

I think it's pretty clear you're never going to be in a position to "run an office."

I agree fish is a bizarre thing to send in for a kid's lunch. Can't he eat fish for dinner?

What schools do all these PP's kids attend?

I suspect you're right, but I would think OP's kid would tell her if other kids were making him feel bad about his lunch selection. Until then, I don't think she should avoid sending fish "just in case." If her kid begged her to send turkey sandwiches bc his fish was getting mocked, and she kept sending fish, then OP would be "that" mom.

We've been sending fish of various varieties in our daughter;s lunch for years. Usually it's leftovers so perhaps grilled or pan fried salmon, or sole meuniere.

As for the issue of sushi, the whole purpose of sushi is that the vinegared rice that is what sushi actually means, preserves the fish. I have sent sushi to school with our kids typically rolls such as California rolls or smoked salmon or other imitation crab combos.

Finally, onigiri is a very common lunch for Japanese and Japanese American families. Another way to use leftover salmon or tuna or put in things like pickled vegetables or even seaweed. Barbcued eel is also pretty good as a filing. Usually it is wrapped in seaweed and looks absolutely nothing like the picture in the link provided above. The filling goes in the center of the rice ball, actually shaped like a triangle.

For the person who objects to anyone eating fish. Grow up!

I don't really want to smell your burger or crappy fast food. Fish is also food, get over it.

If he likes spicy try using something like Woeler's Horseradish Sauce. Very good with any fried/baked fish sandwich/taco type meals in lieu of tarter sauce or plain mayo.

Sole meuniere? Wow. Why haven't you invited me for dinner yet?

(P.S. Remember that scene in Tampopo where the new kid on the team angers all of his bosses by out-ordering them at lunch? I love that movie.)

DH takes cans of sardines to the office for lunch--eats them in a sandwich with slices of red onion. Totally gross--I don't let him stink up the kitchen at home with that.

I know you want to avoid tuna, but just in case, I can get these at my local Safeway, but you can also order them on-line. They're pretty good and safe to send for lunches with either bread or crackers.

Thanks for your soapbox speech and lack of recipe suggestions.

Whoops, meant to say, "PP."

I'm the poster who says no fish at school or work I see I must work with some of you ... Btw, I recognize that I am sensitive to smells - I would also ban perfume/cologne/hair spray in the office if I could (and probably most high schools could use that same ban). I bring salads or turkey sandwiches for lunch - no onions. I love fish and many other smelly foods, btw - just think it is gross when the smells permeate a small enclosed communal environment.
