| OP here. This is obviously an old thread but I wanted to post back in case anyone has similar issues somewhere down the line. It was colon cancer, so if you're having these symptoms definitely see your doctor and get a colonoscopy. I'm in my 40s with no known risk factors. |
|
So sorry to hear, OP. I hope your prognosis is good and glad that you caught it. Is there anything you can tell us that you wish you had known about colon cancer signs?
Good luck and hugs to you. |
| Was your diet heavy in meat and dairy? |
Thanks so much. I wish I could offer up more but my original post pretty much summarizes the extent of it. I've had some weight loss but I'm also nursing, which always sends my metabolism through the roof. Looking back I may have had one incident of blood in the stool but that was either during pregnancy or shortly thereafter, so I just assumed it was hemorrhoids. I should have gone to the doctor sooner but life is busy with an infant and a toddler and I really thought it was just my stomach getting more sensitive as I got older. The doctor said this particular tumor has probably been growing for 5 years or more, which would span two pregnancies. I don't know the prognosis yet but hope to find out more next week. |
Not really. I eat very little meat. I usually have Greek yogurt for breakfast and maybe a little cheese at some point during the day but I wouldn't say that makes for a diet that's heavy in dairy. |
Survivor of a different cancer here. Just an FYI that quizzing someone about how they got cancer in order to determine that you are safe is uncool, and unsupportive. OP was very gracious in her response. OP, thank you for coming back, its really important that people know this. I wish you future good health. |

Thank you for posting the update OP, just wanted to say that my father is an 8 year colon cancer survivor.
Wish you the best! |
Another cancer survivor here, and I agree with PP, also questions like these insinuate that it is the patient's fault if they got cancer! |
+1 OP, thanks for the follow-up. I will be thinking of you and wishing you well! |
| OP here. Thank you all so much for the support. This has probably been the hardest weekend of my life and it really does help. Thanks again. |
| I also want to wish you well. You sound like a great mother and thoughtful person. |
| OP, another cancer survivor here wishing you the best! This part of the process is the hardest - I felt better once we had a plan and treatment could start. ((hugs))) |
| I'm having the same symptoms you described. Had ultrasound to see if it was my gallbladder- negative. Having upper endoscopy and colonoscopy in a few days. |

IBS
Celiac Disease Gallstones but most likely GERD - you need to see a gastroenterologist. |
