| Ha--my kids love the LEGO movie, so I recently started doing Taco Tuesdays. They love it. I don't have a set schedule, but we usually eat meat on Sun, Mon and Tues, because I shop on Sun or Mon. Often do leftovers on Wednesday, crockpot or something easy on Thurs (because our cleaning people come that day), and pasta or crockpot leftovers on Friday, since were out of meat and the veggies are turning by then. Saturdays we get take-out or go out to eat. |
| Don't you get incredibly bored with this type of routine. I think I would kill myself if life boiled down to such repetitive experiences. |
|
this month's cooking light has a "theme night" section.
like...baked potato bar, chili, and tacos. Personally, I do it based on fresh groceries. But thursday, I'm running out (we don't eat much meat, so it's a produce heavy meal planner). |

We often do hamburgers on the grill on Mondays and eat them with corn on the cob, out on the patio. it's a nice way to end the first school/work day of the week. During the winter, it's usually pasta with lots of leftovers for my work lunches.
We often do taco tuesday because it amuses my daughter. (from the Lego movie, I think?) We have activities on Thursday night (first gymnastics, now ballet) so we typically have Takeout Thursday on the way home from that. My daughter likes pizza on Fridays, so sometimes we do that. |
| What do you mean: "how would you do this?" |
When life is crazy, routines help simplify things. Over time I've found certain parts of our routine have become more fixed than others -- if we don't have Mexican on Tuesday or Pizza on Fridays I know there will be a big outcry from the kids who think they MUST have those. The other days I feel free to chuck the routine if I feel like doing something different. |
Isn't most of life with kids "repetitive experiences"
|
| We always do fish on Mondays because we buy it Saturday afternoon. |
Not in my family. Thankfully! |

Yes, I have done this in the past and am about to go back to it now that school is here and I want to do more cooking. Right now I am thinking of this:
Sunday -- Pasta night Monday -- Chicken Tuesday -- Taco Tuesday (Yes, we love the Lego Movie!) Wednesday -- Out or Easy, maybe Crock Pot (I work late on Wed so that dictates dinner) Thursday -- Breakfast for Dinner (might be eggs, waffles, pumpkin pancakes, etc) Friday -- Pizza Night Saturday -- Open |
|
Our set days are:
Mon - Pasta Thurs - Meatless Fri - Pizza Other days vary week to week. I find it helps that as I plant the week to only have to look at pasta recipes for Mon etc. Instead of having the whole cookbook to go through, I am only reading one section. I plan every Sun, shop Mon. Both my brother and sister have Taco Tuesdays at their respective homes. |
| I try and plan meals that are large enough to eat two nights in a row. Spinach lasagna, turkey shepherds pie, chicken Parmesan. I look forward to not cooking the second night. We have fish and vegetables one night a week so I never do left overs with fish. I make enough tacos with beans and rice to last two nights. It cuts down on trips to the grocery store also. |
Where do you buy fish so it stays fresh for 2 days? |
| I always do a crockpot meal of some type on Sunday since I'm always home to watch the crockpot (I'm a little nervous about leaving it unsupervised all day) and that way we can use the leftovers for lunches or a dinner in the early part of the following week. |
| If you do breakfast for dinner on Sundays, what do you eat for Sunday breakfast? |
