question about car pooling and fairness

How old are the kids? If they are toddlers (which I doubt are going to swim lessons) I could see it is more responsibility but if they are 10 years olds, it is no extra work for me. If you offered to drive more I would likley decline. I have never carpooled with anyone who wasn't just glad to not be driving all the time. No one was calculating extra fuel costs based on body weight

I think 50/50 makes perfect sense as long as you are clear to your two kids that they both of them are to be on time and out there for pickup at both ends. And what you could do is let the other person know that you would be quite willing if able to pinch hit an extra time or so if she was ill or had something come up - however you would put it. And also to let you know right away if either of your kids was taking extra time to get going after a practice.

The point of carpooling is less driving. Whether I'm taking 2 kids from a family or 1 wouldn't make a difference to me as long as we're splitting the driving 50/50. I find it bizarre that it would matter, but if it does, then find someone else with just one child to carpool with.

Oh please! You're just the kind of tedious nimrod who would never be in my carpool.

OP, you split it down the middle, and if the person who your carpooling with doesn't like that, please find someone more reasonable. Life is too short. My kids are in College, HS and Middle School and I have been driving carpools for years, but I learned that early on.

I can't believe we're even debating this.

There's a lot of overthinking taking place in this thread!

I don't carpool with people that keep score.
