| Don't eat frozen broccoli, it tastes horrible. Start with fresh, cut into florets, boil for 2-3 minutes max, drain, toss with a little butter, salt and pepper. |
| Warm a few Tb of butter and/ or olive oil in a medium skillet. Sauté some diced onion and minced garlic until soft and fragrant. Add 2 T fresh lemon juice and about 2-4 Tb water. Bring to a simmer. Add broccoli florets , toss to coat. Cover, and simmer just a few minutes until the broccoli is slightly tender. Remove the cover, toss again to re-coat with the lemon/garlic sauce, salt to taste. Keep cooking if needed, but be careful not to overcook. The water should evaporate away; drain if needed before serving. |
| op, don't do the frozen stuff. It doesn't taste good. |
Not the OP, but that sounds tasty! I'll try it his week. |
Agree that this is a great recipe. Roasting is one of the best ways to prepare broccoli. Stir-frying is great too. Make it Asian with flavors such as ginger, garlic, sesame oil, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, etc. Make it Italian with lemon, Parmesan, garlic, etc. My husband hated broccoli (and most other vegetables) because he had grown up eating canned veggies or plain, boiled veggies that were overcooked. Broccoli is a member of the cabbage family. If you cook it too long it is really unappetizing, like boiled cabbage. Fresh broccoli is always best, but frozen can be good too if you dress it up a bit. Good luck! |
| It really helps to get it fresh. Try a farmers market. Stir fry is great and easy(just follow a recipe the first few times), roasting, and steaming(preheat oven to 350, oven proof pot/container with lid, cover bottem with a 1/4 inch of water, cut it up in equal size pieces, and cook covered for 20 minutes). |
| Meh, there are plenty of vegetables to experiment with. Don't feel you have to like it. I prefer cauliflower, personally. |
|
I recently made this recipe, Orzo with roasted vegetables. Except I don't like eggplant, so I substituted roasted broccoli and roasted cauliflower. It is so good. The leftovers are even better:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/orzo-with-roasted-vegetables-recipe.html You can google how to roast broccoli/cauliflower to add to the Orzo if you need to. |
+1, this is delicious (and roasted for anyone who doesn't click on the link) I don't use pine nuts and lemon zest because I rarely have them on hand, but I'm sure it would make it even better (I use bottled lemon juice, the horror). My toddler loves it. I make a big batch and there's rarely any left. |
Um, that isn't very diet friendly. Why would I eat broccoli if I didn't want to lose weight? |
Fat is not the enemy. And you'll eat it when you realize how yummy it tastes! Roast it! Cheese! Or http://www.grouprecipes.com/54589/broccoli-in-spicy-orange-sauce.html. Or Rick Rodgers's Blue Cheese Broccoli Salad (cpuldn't find a link, sorry). Broccoli cheese soup! Mmmm.... broccoli. |
I love broccoli myself but I agree that you shouldn't force yourself if you don't. |
+1 Also, if you are a big butter eater, it's great steamed to just done (not mushy) with melted butter, fresh lemon juice and garlic and salt. Also steamed then slathered in ranch dressing. Or baked with breadcrumbs and butter and cheese on top. |
Because it's delicious. Even my kids like it. |
| Really? This is your topic today? With so much going on in the world. Just eat the vegetable, for god's sake. And don 't post again until you have a real issue. |
