| I lost 10 pounds and was a little annoyed that nobody noticed, especially when EVERYBODY noticed that DH lost weight. However, I am someone who doesn't pay much attention to others' weight losses and gains, so I can't fault them. OP, you're doing it for yourself mostly, right? So assume others never were critical of you like your mom was, that you were just fine, and now be happy you feel and look much better to yourself! |
| I don't comment on people's weight or appearance, unless they are a really good friend and have confided in me that they are trying to lose weight, in which case I will make encouraging remarks. But in general, I don't think it is polite to comment either way. |
I found there was a delayed response, for some reason. I lost 30 lbs over last winter, have been stable for 6 months now, and NOW people come up to me and say "have you lost weight? You look great!" I do think wearing new clothes makes people look at you differently. Also a hair cut. Get a haircut, and people will ask if you lost weight.

| S E V E N pounds??!?!? |
|
Why would I comment on your weight?
Should I comment if I think you gained a few pounds? I don't see a few pounds of weight loss as some marker that you are a better person, or any positive really. You should be losing weight for yourself, not for reactions from others. No one should care if you lost 7 lbs, you were fine and just as much you 7 pounds heavier as you are now. |

119, unless you are very short, sounds dangerously thin.
Either that or you carry it all in the middle and have no boobs/ass (some of my latina friends are like this). I think your mom is off her rocker. |

Since your mom was the only one to point out your weight gain, she's the only one I'd expect to notice the following weight loss. Most people would never comment on your weight - it's rude. 119 lbs at 5'1" is a healthy weight - feel good about that and don't look for people to address it directly.
re different weights at home & at Dr's office - totally normal! Naked, weigh in first thing in the morning after going to the bathroom is several lbs different than going into the Dr's office fully clothed, after eating a meal. Always is. |
OP said she is 5'1". That is not dangerously thin |
That's true. When I was that weight, I was on the chunky side (I'm 5'1"). One more thing that other people don't seem to realize, though, is that 7 pounds at that height make a HUGE difference and would be very noticeable. OP, I'm sure people have noticed. Maybe they fear saying something (even complimentary) would be rude and offensive? |
| I am really hesitant to comment on people's weight loss because I feel like it implies I thought they looked fat before. I usually just say, "you look great!" |
