Hispanics can be white or black. It is not a race.

Hispanics can be Asian too.

Of course they're open about it (Opus Dei) on the website. Why would they hide it? It's no secret, and most of us are not troubled one bit by it. While not Opus Dei ourselves, we ARE catholic and first and foremost this is a Catholics school. More importantly, we're not afraid of anti-catholic bigots trying to spread misguided and pop-culture-fueled rumors about a lay group. We can think for ourselves, thanks.

OK, maybe you can answer a few questions. What is Opus Dei really about, since you imply that anti-catholic bigots are spreading lies about it? Why are you not Opus Dei, yet you send your kids to an Opus Dei School? There are countless Catholic schools that are not affiliated with Opus Dei.

Only a small minority of the faculty and families are members of the lay organization.

Why do non-Episcopalians go to St Albans? Why do non-quakers go to Sidwell?

The Heights is about so much more than Opus Dei.

It is a great fit for our sons, and we have never regretted our choice. End of story.

Opus Dei is about personal charity and social work. The davinci code was the anti-catholic movie that "lied" about it. And most people only know the words Opus Dei because of the movie. I am sending my kids to this school because it was the one thay liked the best at open house and shadow day.

This thread motivated me to check out their website. I was very impressed by the curriculum and the focus on rearing responsible young men. My son is currently at a K-8 school. We are liberal Episcopalians with an Obama sticker on our car. Would we be accepted or fit in at The Heights if we were to look at it for high school? Our school does not send students there, or at least none have matriculated to The Heights recently.

^^ To be honest, no. Not as Obama supporters. Not as liberal Episcopalians. All the bumper stickers will be pro-life, pro-military, pro boy scouts, anti-abortion and very big families. If that bothers you, than you will not feel comfortable.

But I don't like the kinds of "personal charity" and "social work" Opus Dei does. Does that make me anti-Catholic? I haven't read or seen The DaVinci Code.

No. I don't see any problem with you not liking any specific organization for whatever personal reasons you have. I am sure people who don't believe in circumcisions don't like that Jewish families have a bris but you don't see them coming on the Private School Forum saying you should never send you child to a Jewish school because of the practice... it just seems like good fun to criticize Catholics.

The Heights punishes misbehavior in strange ways, like isolating students in dark rooms for extended periods of time.

^^ You know The Da Vinci Code wasn't a documentary about the Heights, don't you?
Anonymous
Most people in DC knew about Opus Dei before the DaVinci Code, due to Robert Hanssen.

OK, you're right. Catholics have been far more persecuted than Jews. Sorry.
