That is a really high rent for that HHI. Our mortgage is only $2200/month on double your HHI and it's not easy. Can't you find a less expensive place? |
That wasn't me that called you ignorant. I live in dc. |
Holy moly! Which part? Did you buy a long time ago? I am seriously impressed by that mortgage payment. |
| I have a condo, so not that impressive. In a residential neighborhood, quiet, right next to the park. It's not terribly small, but I am kind of a minimalist. |
Um, there aren't a lot of places in this area that you can rent a decent sized home for less than $2k. We currently have a $2300 mortgage on just above $100k. I was working part-time when we bought, but my company is having a tough year and I was basically furloughed. I wasn't making all that much anyway. We're not doing our monthly savings like we had been, but we're managing ok. My salary basically was used for that and the very pt childcare for our after school child. |
| 1050/month mortgage plus condo fee. 70K. Live in Anacostia. |
| 80K - 90K, and rent at $1855. We have some significant medical expenses, about $1,200 a month. Other than that, expenses are pretty "typical", e.g. food, electricity. Things that wouldn't surprise you. One kid who is past childcare age. |
LOL. Have you looked at rents around here? Our HHI is about 75k, we rent 2 BR for 1600, 2 kids, and we're doing OK. HHI of 200K and you find a 2200 mortgage challenging, what on earth are you spending your money on? |
| HHI 60K and mortgage is $1200+$300 HOA. Qualified for the loan because of great credit score and no debt at the time. |
I know! This reminds me of relatives in Western Pennsylvania who like to complain about their 1750 mortgage on their combined 150k income. They have no clue about how we live on the DC area. |
| Single mom, HHI $75K. Rent a two bedroom at about $1,600. Daycare is $280/week. Things are tight but we manage. |
That must be pretty tight. Do you have anything left over to save? |
| I bought a house when I was in that income bracket, and PITI was about $2700. I was single and no other major expenses, except retirement savings. I also rented out the basement for $1200. |
| I purchased while making 50k. Mortgage payment 2k. I needed a roommate for $800 a month to make finances work. I enjoyed it too! |
Our biggest expenses other than the mortgage are student loan debt, childcare, and preschool. It must be nice not to have tons of student loan debt or child care expenses (which it sounds like you don't at that HHI and rent combo). |
