How often do you color your gray roots?

Nothing worse than seeing gray roots, especially against darker hair.

What tips do you have? I use Natural Instincts every 4 weeks or so, but by 2 weeks they grey is coming in, and I really should do it more often. But I can't stand doing it; I leave it on for 45 minutes or they grey doesn't color. I've started to realize the color I choose is too dark, so I've dialed it back to medium brown. I've got a box of the L'Oreal reusable mousse, but it's "permanent" and I haven't opened it yet. I kinda wish my hair would stop growing (or that I had the balls to just let it grow out).

I use a root applicator - and then lightly tap to spread the color - but I have long hair so it's easier to color the roots. I buy color from esalon and you might be right - you might be using too dark of a color. N will color gray more easily, I use 6N (medium color). The lighter the color, the more easy it is to blend in with hair that's not being colored.

Me too but I'm pregnant now and am on week 8 since my last color and I look terrible! I can't believe I have to walk around like this for another 5 weeks. I'm only 33!

You can color your hair while you're pregnant. It's not like you're bleaching the crap out of it.

Oh, I will be, or I'd look like a 60 year old giving birth (not that there's anything wrong with that, but I am 33). I'm waiting until 2nd trimester to color.

I've heard henna is not a good option if you plan to use regular color again. I also wouldn't feel comfortable using it in the first tri. For now, I'm doing strategic parting, wearing hats, and avoiding people. We aren't telling until second tri and anyone who knows me and sees my hair is going to know immediately. Forget fearing the emergence of the bump, my hair is my give-a-way!
