You are right that it's a short-term problem, OP. I wouldn't make a big deal about this because it'll be a moot point very soon.

I agree with the PPs that say that you should get some stuff done during the times your MIL is there. She is ignoring you anyway. Might as well get some grocery shopping done, or some laundry, or even maybe go to the gym or get your nails done.

It does suck that she is so last minute about everything, but I would use it to my advantage.

My MIL is very similar but she does not live within driving distance. She tells DS, "oh, I love you so much. Muah, Muah, muah, kisses, kisses. I love you." Yet is constantly "too busy" to FaceTime, talk, send emails. When we are together, she sleeps in, invites friends over, ignores him. Wth?

Say NO every time she wants to stop by with no notice. Seriously. this will go on for a whole nother year otherwise!
