Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers

My son's preschool is accredited with NAEYC and has an open door policy. The school encourages parent involvment, having lunch with your child, except at naptimes. Parents are required to volunteer so many hours a semester, and each classroom have room parents-they help organize parties and special outings. I can also watch my child at school through a video link. I see parents come and go all the time as I watch the class on the video.
I would be alarmed with the no drop in policy. |
Yeah, okay. I can agree with you on that. |

Hi, OP here.
They have windows to each preschool classroom. But they do not allow parents to come and watch through those windows, saying it 'disrupts' the classroom environment. If I want to come in and observe from inside the classroom I am allowed to, but I must sign up on a signup sheet first. This is because the class room size is small and only one or two parents can come at a time. I understand this. But when I'm inside the classroom, of course the teachers will be on the best behavior right? I want to observe the class when they don't know I'm there observing, otherwise where's the accountability? It was my son who said his teachers were cold and gave me a few examples of how they were with him. I was really shocked. In front of me, they lay it on and are sooo nice. I just want to observe when they don't know I'm observing. Today I went to a different school to see if I could transfer my son there. It was worse. It was a public school with supposedly a great reputation. The teachers were rude like you wouldn't believe to the kids. And they did not care that I was in the room observing. One teacher said to a child, "Oh for goodness sake, stop that nonsense, I don't have time for that." He was scribbling or doing something what seemed to me to be relatively petty. The other teacher said to one child who interrupted her session, "You're annoying us." Then the other teacher once remarked to a child, "What's wrong with you?" I was so shocked. They seemed like they were easily stressed by the slightest movement that was not controlled. So now I have to find another school for my child. |
| OP again: sorry I can't reveal the name of the school. It would not be fair. It is in Fairfax County though and it is a private preschool. |
