We can all rattle off the odd-ball names - Suri, Harlow, Honor, Bronx, etc., but the "normal" names, um, well if there were any that existed (maybe Tori Spelling's kids?) I can't remember them...get the point?

There is no such thing as an oddball name. Each name has a unique meaning, whether it's traditional, historical, religious, etc. In fact, some would call the more traditional names extremely boring and want their child to have a name that is unique and just for them....how many Mark's, John's, Sarah's, Amy's do you know? **yawn**

To each their own folks!!!

ITA. I'm sure at some point Liam and Stella were considered "out of the box". I was on a preschool tour last week. My eyes got dizzy from reading Emily, Cate/Kate, Ava, Henry, John, James and Caroline over and over again above the cubbies.

I went to high school with a Serafina. It's also common in Latin America. No biggie.

I think it's a great name. It doesn't seem to go with her other daughter's name well, though, Violet. I hate matchy names, but I do like some flow among sibling names.

I love the names Hazel and Phinnaeus. If the kids are lucky enough to have the quirky beauty that their mother does, the names will be especially perfect.

I saw a post on another site making fun of names like Moesha and Shaniqua and asking why they couldn't be named normal names. The names were not what I normally encounter either but I don't know why they have to be put down just because they aren't "normal" in some circles.

I agree, in a perfect world, people wouldn't criticize others' names. Sadly, though, people get judged by their names every day. Just something to keep in mind while poring through the baby name books.

Oh, come on. Of course there are.

Sheesh such venom from the OP. I think it's a beautiful name.

At least Seraphina is actually intended as a a name, as opposed to Bronx, Apple, Pilot Inspektor (whoa!!!) or other bizarre celeb attention-seeking choices.

Remember that Oprah wasn't a normal name.

Op, I think you need to get out more. No offense.

I think Seraphina is gorgeous and it is not oddball. Its been around, quietly, for ages as attested to by the PPs who have known Seraphinas.

Anyone who considers Honor an odd name is really out there, too. Honor is a classic and quite beautiful name and I have known several Honors throughout my life.

Oh, and my life is, and has always been, absolutely mainstream and "whitebread" too. These two names in particular are just not weird.

Seraphina doesn't sound like it goes with the last name Affleck or Garner, and it doesn't sound, to me, like it matches Violet. But, at least it's a real name instead of just a word (or, worse, a normal name that is misspelled so as to become "unique").

I love the name.

I love the name too. People give their kids biblical names all the time.
