| I'd keep looking. My first house was on a busy road and it drove me crazy listening to the whooshing of cars go by all the time. My second house had a home behind it and the neighbors were pretty loud. I'd rather the house behind me than the busy road but I'd avoid both if possible. |

Busy road is a deal breaker for me. It is not only the noise, but also the pollution.
In my street only one person uses his garage to park his car. Everybody else parks outside and use the garage for other stuff, mainly storage. |
+1 I've lived on a bust road. Noise was horrible and the dirt kicked up and on the front windows was gross. |

I couldn't live on a busy road or in a house that backs to one, so I'd have to pass on that one no matter how great it is.
The house we're buying has a garage, and I wouldn't have bought a house without one, but I have never had one in my adult life so far. It's only really a problem when it snows. |
| I've never owned a house with a garage. |
OP here. House 1 has also been sitting for a while now and while I like the house I am nervous about the resale. Would you mind sharing what general price point your house is at? |
| Busy road is worse. |
| Busy road is going to he a deal breaker for people with kids or maybe even just pets. It has much more to do with safety than noise, but I would NEVER buy a house on a busy street. No garage is not a big deal to me at all though, as long as there is a driveway or sufficient street parking. |

| Busy road is a deal breaker! |
| Depends... Our house is near the entrance to our development so it is somewhat busy during the morning and evening rush, but then things are fairly quiet otherwise. Our main living spaces are in the back of the house, so it doesn't bother me much. My kids learned at an early age not to run in the street which has helped throughout their whole lives. I like the garage to store nasty stuff like paint and dirty shoes and yard stuff and strollers. |
| I hate street noise and it would make me sick, but everyone's different |
| If you're thinking about resale, then it's a no-brainer: No garage. You can't change location. Been there/done that. |
Not my house, but over a million. In an area where every house has either an attached or detached garage. This house has room for a garage and architect plants. I think for resale the issue is what is the norm for the area where the house is. If all the other houses in the area have garages, it likely will be a resale issue. If not, maybe not a big deal. I don't know where all the posters who say no bust street live. But if you are looking in the city, or close in suburb, hard to be outside earshot of a busy street. Probably different if you are looking in further out suburbs. |
| Plans not plants. |
